DEWEY GOES PINK REGISTRATION OPENS AUG 1ST

Registration for the 9th annual Dewey Goes Pink 5K Run/Walk hosted by The Starboard Restaurant in conjunction with Body Shop Fitness will open on August 1, 2019. Tickets are anticipated to sell out quickly. The crown jewel in The Starboard’s fundraising crown has raised an astounding half a million dollars since it’s inception several years ago, and all the money raised goes to The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, and benefits those fighting cancer right here, in Sussex County.

Steve “Monty” Montgomery, owner of The Starboard, speaks about the event, originally founded to honor his late mother, who battled breast cancer. “The beauty of this event is not just in the fundraising—while that is flat out amazing—it’s the event itself we enjoy, as it brings so many loved ones together. We get to enjoy the best of Dewey Beach, outdoors in the sunshine, and on the streets and parking lot of the famous Starboard Restaurant.”

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019. The race begins at 11AM. On-site registration for the race will be held on Friday, October 4th from 4-6PM and on Saturday, October 5th before the race from 9-11AM.

The event grows bigger with each passing year, as the community turns out, clad in pink from head to toe, to show their support of loved ones, or commemorate their own battles with cancer. Last year, 3,000 runners and walkers participated in the event, raising an astounding $115K. This year, online registration will be capped at 2,800 participants. There are several ways to be involved in the day, by running, walking, sponsoring, or just buying a party pass and coming to have fun.

Bethany Blues BBQ feeds the thousands in attendance, and there’s always plenty of libations for all to kick back, celebrate, honor, or remember loved ones battling all types of cancer. Kristen and Johnny will be on stage yet again to entertain the masses. And The Starboard will have a WWII Navy Jet flyover planned during opening ceremony.

Montgomery and his co-sponsor of the event, Adam Howard from Body Shop Fitness in Rehoboth, hope you will come out to enjoy one of their favorite events to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition: Dewey Goes Pink on October 5th.
